Scottish Student Loans Change

Wednesday 13th June 2007

Scottish MP’s announced plans today to scrap their Graduate Endowment payments, which is paid by students after graduation. The fees were introduced in 2001 and those students who started their study in September 2006 will be required to pay £2,289 when they graduate.

Students in Scotland do not currently pay fees like their English counterparts yet the endowment policy was seen as an alternative and the money raised from the payments was used to help students from different backgrounds by securing bursaries for future generations of students.

Scottish Students can chose to take out an additional loan from the Student Loans Company to cover the cost of their endowment payment and it is thought that the scrapping of this payment would lead to even less student debt for Scottish scholars.
