Laptops and PCs

'PC' stands for Personal Computer and this term refers to computers that comprise a monitor, a keyboard and a base unit. Laptops are thin computers that fold up and can be easily transported. Whether you choose a laptop or a PC will depend on your personal requirements.

You will often hear people talking about Microsoft and Apple. These two computer companies offer different and competitive methods of computing, and computer users tend to become familiar with one system and then stick to it. Shop around, read up on these systems, go into the shops and try them out before deciding which one you want.

Before choosing your computer, take these points into account:

  • How much do you want to spend?
  • Do you need it simply for word processing or will you want to edit photos and play games? If the second is true then you will need more disk space for graphics.
  • Is it for family, personal or business use?

Because new models come out all the time you can expect your new computer to depreciate in value substantially over time. On the plus side, this can mean that you can find good second-hand computers at very competitive prices.
